I started (another) new script tonight. I think I may actually progress with this one. It is about a fiercely fired up, kick ass, fearless, defiant, vengeful, dangerously sexy woman. Kind of an edgy romantic comedy. Think banger sisters meets kill bill. My protagonist married her best friend, a 30 year old e-business multi-millionaire with an artistic/humanistic/free spirit when she was 23 years old. Tragically, he died (there will be a lot of killing off of men in this one, I'm afraid...) and she was left at 24 with 6.5 million dollars and a seriously broken heart. Our story starts five years later, she's 29, and living a recklessly enviable, though tragic, life. She has developed a complete disregard for the ladylike conventions of society. She freely and humorously says what others think, and does everything on an impulse. She is my hero.
Her sister is the opposite. She is the softest, sweetest, most tactful person you'll ever meet. She is 30, married to the man of her dreams, who runs a high-end car dealership in their suburb. When she discovers that after only three years of marriage, he is fucking his secretary, and actually is falling in love with her, she loses it. Reluctantly, with nowhere else to turn, she temporarily moves into her wild younger sister's large house in the nearby city. The sister is overwhelmed by the offensive cliche of her life...married to a car salesman who wants to divorce and marry his trashy, bottle blond bimbo secretary....how did this happen to her?
For the first time, the picture perfect sister allows herself to be furious. As my protagonist helps her big sister maneuver through the rage and heartache with vengeance (I'm picturing blowing up cars on the lot, reclaiming the beloved family dog via a little b&e in the middle of the night, an edgy make-over and draining a bank account, etc...) the lead discovers that she's been wasting time being angry without reason. Life goes on. Learn to love. Learn to apply one's crazy passion/fury to a meaningful cause.
I forgot to mention something else, the protagonist has one loyal, lovable, patient guy friend who has totally got her number. He's been waiting in the wings for the chick to finally grieve for good and put herself to proper use in society (she's been living off th 6.5 million, singing in bars (she is a kick ass singer), reading, and occasionally volunteering at a center for women. she's a kind person: we see her buy meals for homeless people, etc., but she has essentially been hating the world and any men she's dated for the last five years.)
So, for the predictable finish: She grows up and realizes that the charming guy pal who puts up with all of her adventurous fiascos is actually her new soul mate, and she shouldn't feel bad about it. He inspires her to work full time for a non-profit that helps empower oppressed women. The sister gains some of the protag's independence and confidence, which helps her deal with the reality of her vastly changing life. And, as for the horrible husband, the bottle blond secretary trash bimbo has a baby a few months after their horrendous shotgun wedding. Curiously, the baby looks quite a bit like the car dealership's business partner, Ravi Patel.
Soundtrack: Fiona, Tori, Pink
Ugh. Enough for now.
